Are you thinking about detoxing in the New Year after the rich food of Christmas and general over indulgence? January is not a good month to start on a detox program. It would be better to wait until the Spring in March, when the body is ready for change. The colder, darker days of Winter require nourishing, warming foods. Detoxifying foods are ideally eaten in the Spring, when days are lengthening. Quinoa is a high protein grain with healing properties, warming and strengthening for the whole body, ideal for the winter months. It contains higher calcium levels than milk and a higher fat content than all the other grains,an excellent source of iron, B vitamins and vitamin E. Quinoa (pronounced keen wa) is prepared and used like rice. It was an ancient staple food of the Incas, grown in the South American Andes for thousands of years.
Recipe:
Quinoa Tabouli
1 cup quinoa boiled for 20 minutes in
2 cups water
half cup peas
1 tomato
half a cucumber
6 sliced olives
chopped chives and parsley
half a teaspoon marjoram and thyme
3 tablespoons lemon juice
soy sauce
Add all the other ingredients and mix well.
