Vitamin C - a vital nutrient for immunity and at times of stress
Our vitamin C requirements are higher than for any other water soluble vitamin. Ideally we would take a vitamin C supplement often and in smaller amounts throughout the day, as it is rapidly used up by the body. It is not possible for the body to store reserves of vitamin C. If we drink caffeine in any form, are under stress, or recovering from illness we are more likely to suffer from vitamin C deficiency.
Some of the foods high in vitamin C are blackcurrants, broccoli, strawberries, red peppers, kiwi fruit, oranges, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, watercress. By including these foods and 'eating a rainbow' every day we are helping to include the nutrients we need to support our immunity and sustain vitamin C levels.
